“Just looking back, I used to call myself a tomboy but that’s not really who I was. I was a tomboy because of the environment that I was in. The way I dressed, I didn’t want to come off too sexy so I would wear oversized clothing.”

“Ambers Book Cub is something that I can do for myself. I do a lot for my clients. I think I give my job 150% and I think everybody gets to a point where they have to have like a passion project or some sort of purpose and I think me sharing the books that helped me get to where I am […] is probably the best advice or best form of mentorship I could ever give to anyone.”

ISSUE 15 “The Power Shift: Who Runs the World”

SIOBHAN BELL

Written by Nubian Princess

DSRPT.: To you personally, what defines a strong woman?

SB: “What defines a strong woman is a balance. For me, how I feel like I’m more of a strong woman now is that I can balance my masculine energy and feminine energy and it kinda works together.”

DSRPT.: Who are your top most powerful women you look up to?

SB: “Oprah, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian.”

DSRPT.: Tell us about a time where you had to be more dominant?

SB: “DJing. My career. When I first started DJing I was one of few women DJ’s, there wasn’t a lot of us then. Around like , that’s when I first started DJing so there were barely any girls and I was always on the lineup full of men. I feel like I’ve built a lot of like masculine energy within what I do.”

DSRPT.: Women are taking over right now. Why do you think that is?

SB: “I think that us as women, we’re just realizing our power. And we’re stepping into our power now. We understand that, y’know, we’re actually the forefront of success.“

DSRPT.: Where do you get your strength from?

SB: “I left home when I was  so I feel like my strength has come from me being both my parents. Just having to look after myself and almost transform and grow myself into this woman that I am today.”

DSRPT.: Is it hard being a woman in this generations day and age? Why and why not?

SB: It’s harder because there’s now a pressure or connotation for women to look a certain way…I just feel that now, there’s just an extra pressure to look good within what you’re doing instead of doing what you’re doing.”

DSRPT.: Do you feel like you have a certain standard that you need to uphold in order to be taken seriously?

SB: “I just feel like because I have stuck to, kinda my grounds and focus on what I’m trying to give in terms of my talent and work, I am taken a lot more for seriously in terms of long term relationships and when I want to do things, that I’m not associated with anything but my music.”

DSRPT.: How do you think women have influenced the DJ industry?

SB: “Before I was trying to match guys energy… now I’ve created my own aura and vibe and my own feminine energy that I want to give out when I DJ.”

DSRPT.: What advice can you give someone who’s trying to step into their own power.

SB: “Being patient and being patient with yourself as well. Every single step you take is of importance whether it’s like small, big or just a little inkling. That little inkling or thing or that small thing contributes to the goal.”
